As we go crazy over AB de Villiers’ record-breaking 31-ball number of against West Indies at Gauteng, let us remember the other two One-Day international (ODI) Hundred obtained in less than 40 balls. A young Shahid Afridi had beefed his way to a 37-ball number of in only his second ODI at Nairobi; it had seemed an unbelievable task in those days, what with Sanath Jayasuriya having set the 48-ball standard just six several weeks previously.
Let us evaluate the three innings, ball by ball. How did the three men improvement throughout their innings?
