India started their limited-over series Down Under on a losing note as Australia
sealed the first One-day International by five wickets. Rohit Sharma
who began on a slow note, picked up the pace towards the end of the
innings to finish 171 not out.
Barinder Sran, who made his India
debut, was impressive with the new ball as he dismissed openers David
Warner and Aaron Finch to give India the early breakthrough. However,
from there on in, George Bailey (112) and skipper Steven Smith (149)
shared a match-winning 242-run stand to help the hosts take a 1-0 lead
in the five match ODI series.
