New Zealand vs England, ICC World Cup 2015 Preview

ENG look for 1st win against rampaging Kiwis

England is set to take on co-hosts New Zealand in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 Match 9 at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington on Friday. The Group B match will start at 6:30 PM Indian Standard Time (IST) on February 20. New Zealand have been unbeaten so far in the competition, winning both their Group B matches so far –against Sri Lanka and Scotland.  Catch the updated Points Table of 2015 Cricket World Cup here.

While the first win against the former champions was registered comfortably, the minnows gave them a tough them, serving as a wake-up call for the tournament favourites ahead of other crucial encounters. Despite bowling out Scotland for 142, the Kiwis made a mess of the run-chase in conditions that weren’t too difficult for batting. A complacent body language was evident by the Kiwi batsmen who threw their wickets away rather easily to a disciplined bowling attack.

England, on the other hand, have a lot of issues to be sorted out. They lost the only match played in this edition of the World Cup against Australia. Despite a new-look side in the absence of Alastair Cook, England have failed to live up to the promise. The squad looks fresh on paper, but has failed to translate that promise with their performance.

Skipper Eoin Morgan has been out of form, since scoring a brilliant ton against Australia in the opening match of the Carlton MID tri-series. Moeen Ali has time and again got off to a good start, but has thrown his wicket away as easily. Ian Bell is the only batsman who has scored consistently for the English lately. James Taylor, nearly scored a century before an error in judgment by the on-field umpires robbed him off the golden chance. However, the knock will hold him in good stead ahead of the clash against the Kiwis.

Going into the clash, New Zealand hold a massive advantage, but England have the resources in hand to halt the Kiwi-carnage. With big scores being a regular feature in the competition so far, the batting of both sides could dictate the terms of the match

New Zealand: Brendon McCullum (c), Trent Boult, Nathan McCullum, Kyle Mills, Adam Milne, Daniel Vettori, Kane Williamson, Corey Anderson, Tim Southee, Luke Ronchi (wk), Ross Taylor, Grant Elliott, Tom Latham, Martin Guptill, Mitchell McClenaghan.
England: Moeen Ali, James Anderson, Gary Ballance, Ian Bell, Ravi Bopara, Stuart Broad, Jos Buttler, Steven Finn, Alex Hales, Chris Jordan, Eoin Morgan (capt), Joe Root, James Taylor, James Tredwell, Chris Woakes
