On the double header Thursday, Sri Lanka takes on Bangladesh in the second match of February 26 Group A fixture of 2015 Cricket World Cup at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. While Sri Lanka is coming off a hard-fought win against minnows Afghanistan, Bangladesh surprisingly remains unbeaten in the tournament, thanks to the washout game against Australia. Both third placed Bangladesh and fourth placed side Sri Lanka hopes for a win in MCG and in this goal, we take a look at five players who can play a major role.
1—Mahela Jayawardene
Sri Lankan veteran showed sheer class and temperament in the last match against Afghanistan. A hundred against an inexperienced Afghan side would not have been deemed as extraordinary but the condition in which the timely innings came made it invaluable. With Sri Lankan top order in hut, a pressure of losing second consecutive match in 2015 Cricket World Cup, Jayawardene played the innings of a savior. And Bangladesh needs to be wary of this savior.
2—Angelo Mathews
To have a genuine all-rounder in the side is bliss and Sri Lankan side can boast about leading all-rounder in form of their captain Angelo Mathews. Be it as the first change while bowling or play lofty innings lower down the order, Mathews is effective in his role. 3—Lasith Malinga
The Mumbai Indians seamer who has had a topsy turvey tournament so far is slowly and steadily gaining momentum. Coming back from injury is always tough but if Malinga peaks at the right moment, Sri Lanka will again be a force to reckon with.
4—Mashrafe Mortaza
The former Bangladesh Skipper had a decent opening match and at times looked the Mortaza of the old when he dominated the batsmen. It is a good time for this pacer to face a slightly nervous Lankan batting that, which has looked a bit edgy.
5—Mushfiqur Rahim
The wicket-keeper batsman was the man of the match against Afghanistan when he along with Shakib Al Hasan bailed Bangladesh against disciplined Afghan’s bowling attack. Rahim was in danger of missing out in the game against Sri Lanka but he has been cleared to play
